NPTC Becomes Commercial Partner of Ospreys

The Ospreys will wear the logo of one of Wales' largest colleges on their jersey in the coming season after confirming NPTC Group as a commercial partner for 2013/14.

NPTC Group, which launches on Thursday 1st August ahead of the new academic year following a merger between Neath Port Talbot College and Coleg Powys, will have a turnover of approximately £53 million and service more than 270,000 residents across communities stretching the length of Wales, from south to north.

The new institution will work with 18,000 students, full and part-time, and employs almost 1,300 people. There are 12 campuses, one of which is Llandarcy Academy of Sport, the training home of the Ospreys where the region's entire rugby operations are already based, from senior team through to the community rugby set-up.

Yarnie Guthrie, Ospreys Commercial Manager, welcomed the good news, saying: "We already have a successful long term relationship with NPTC Group and this partnership is a welcome extension of that.

Obviously, we share facilities at Llandarcy, but the relationship goes much deeper than that with things like the college rugby programme, which is supported by the Ospreys to help produce better players and better citizens, while NPTC Group students assist with the delivery of the Ospreys Schools Programme at the Liberty Stadium.

"Both organisations are at the heart of the local community, making the partnership a perfect fit and we are absolutely thrilled that NPTC Group are strengthening the partnership through investment into the Ospreys. We look forward to helping them grow and flourish off the back of the merger."

Mark Dacey, Chief Executive of the new NPTC Group said: "NPTC Group is delighted to be working in partnership with the Ospreys for the forthcoming season. We are building on what is already a successful relationship.

"The Ospreys currently use our excellent training facilities at Llandarcy Academy of Sport which includes a new state-of-the-art gym, a national standard multi-use sports hall, climbing wall, all weather 3 G pitch, multi-use games area and indoor bounding track. They are first class facilities for a first class team and this new venture will cement the bond even further."

It is anticipated that the new College will provide many opportunities and advantages for students, staff and local communities including:

  • an increased financial capability to undertake long-term planning and development to better reflect twenty-first century education
  • an opportunity to share some of the outstanding practices both institutions provide to their students
  • a wider range of courses on offer
